Volker Gerlings Daumenkinos basieren auf seinen Erlebnissen und Begegnungen von knapp 12 Monaten Leben auf Wanderschaft. Er blättert die Daumenkinos unter einer Videokamera ab, während ein Videobeamer die Bilder auf die Leinwand projiziert: Aus Daumenkino wird Daumenkino-Kino. Begleitet wird das Programm von Gerlings Erzählungen über die Menschen, die er für seine Daumenkinos porträtieren durfte, einigen philosophischen Gedanken zu Fotografie und Film, zu den Lücken zwischen den Bildern und zum langsamen Reisen. So entsteht eine leichtfüßige und zugleich tiefsinnige Reflexion über die Flüchtigkeit des Moments und die Bedeutung der menschlichen Begegnung.
